Animals we’ve helped

swiss-miss  ”Swiss Miss” the sweet Chocolate Lab X Whippet girl was adopted today by Tonya with DMPD, and is now known as “Lena”!  She had been picked up as a stray and never claimed, so was vet-checked, spayed, vaccinated and micro-chipped by Des Moines Vet, and now has her “forever” home- Thanks Tonya for being “Lena’s” new mommy!

wookie  “Wookie” went home with his new family today after having all his “doctoring” yesterday- he is such a sweet lil guy and his new family is thrilled with him! Thanks to everyone for all your help in finding him the wonderful, caring home he deserves!

ziggy “Ziggy” was found as a stray at Highline College and no one claimed him. He is the nicest dog but I think he was dumped, I think he is probably an American Bulldog mix, maybe with Lab or Pit Bull. Anyway, one of the groomers at Holiday Kennels (where we had him held for his stray hold) fell in love with him. He passed our behavior assessment and we then had him vet-checked, vaccinated, neutered, and micro-chipped at Des Moines Vet. The groomer Heather then adopted him on Monday- I was SO grateful as “Ziggy” was a challenge to find a new home for, due to his looks (he looks very Pit Bull-ish) and his large size. He is now happy and healthy in Heather’s home with her family, and all is well.  Thank You again for helping with “Ziggy”, we at DMPD (and the animals) appreciate your group very much!

bigfoot-benny  ”Bigfoot Benny” is a super-cute, friendly kitten that needs a new home- he is around 3 months old, shorthaired black with white markings, and is a “polydactyl” (also called a “Hemmingway Kitty Cat”), which means he has 6 toes on both his front feet, giving him big bear paws (see picture)!  Nobel Prize–winning author Ernest Hemingway was one of the more famous lovers of polydactyl cats, after being first given a six-toed cat by a ship’s captain. Upon Hemingway’s death, his former home in Key West, Florida, became a museum and a home for his cats, and it currently houses approximately fifty descendants of his cats, about half of which are polydactyl. Because of his love for these animals, “Hemingway Kitty Cat” is a term which has come to describe polydactyls.

licorice Today, sweet “Licorice” has gone into her wonderful new home!  Thanks to everyone for helping to spread the word, and a big SHOUT OUT to Scott with Waterland Blog, as this home came directly from someone
